Longer lashes have been a highly sought after beauty upgrade for years. But getting flirty and fluttery lashes that would make Twiggy jealous can’t be faked with lengthening mascaras!

Some people need reinforcement, and that’s where growth serums come into play! LATISSE® is an FDA-approved treatment to grow eyelashes for people with inadequate or not enough lashes.

Today, we’ll get into the nitty-gritty of Latisse and help you decide if it is a good idea for you. Keep reading for the good stuff!

Take Your Lashes to the Next Level

So, what’s the story behind Latisse? It’s been on the market for over a decade since being approved by the FDA in 2008.

It comes from a version of an eye drop drug used for glaucoma after eye doctors and their glaucoma patients noticed the lash growth side effect with many reporting longer and fuller eyelashes appearing during their treatment.

This prescription lash serum has been a favorite for those looking to ditch extra coats of mascara. To use, you simply dab Latisse on the upper lash line with the sterile applicator, the drug will spread to your lower lash line when you blink.

Seems simple enough, right? It is! However, some important steps and safety precautions must be followed.

Using Latisse Properly

During your consultation with our team, we’ll:

  1. Provide the prescription
  2. Answer any questions
  3. Walk you through exactly how to apply your new serum every day

The basics are this:

  • You should always clean your face.
  • Remove makeup.
  • Take out contact lenses before using Latisse.
  • You should use Latisse on your upper eyelids for at least 8-10 weeks to get full growth and thickening of the lashes.
  • It is not a cosmetic mascara, it requires a prescription, but you can use mascara over.
  • If you stop using Latisse completely, your lashes will go back to how they were before treatment.

Is Latisse For Everyone?

Generally, if you have healthy eyes, it’s safe to use. Patients with glaucoma or infections may be advised against the use of Latisse.

Because it requires a prescription, you will be working closely with a medical professional. We recommend having an eye exam performed before your consultation.

Some helpful questions to keep in mind while deciding if Latisse is appropriate for you may be:

  • Do you currently have an eye infection?
  • Have you ever been diagnosed with elevated intraocular pressure or glaucoma?
  • Broken or irritated skin on eyelid?
  • History of loss of hair in eyelashes or eyebrows?
  • Shingles/zoster around the eyes?
  • Prior discoloration on the eyelids in the last month?

Did you pass with flying colors? You’re likely a good candidate for Latisse! However, should you develop an eye or eyelid irritation or discoloration stop using the product and call us.

Feel free to toss out your mascaras and eyelash extensions because with Latisse you can enjoy the long and thick lashes you’ve always wanted!
