Aching joints will get you down. When your joints ache, you don’t feel like doing anything. Your favorite activities may even become painful or impossible to practice. But becoming a lump on the couch doesn’t help the situation or give you relief. Regular physical activity is crucial for optimal physical health. It stabilizes your mood and keeps your energy levels elevated.

It’s a frustrating cycle. And for many, over-the-counter and even prescription pain relievers won’t do the trick. So what are your options, especially if everything you’ve already tried hasn’t worked? It may be time to look into Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT).

Can Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) relieve joint pain?

BHRT probably isn’t the first thing that popped into your mind when you think of pain relief, but it’s becoming more and more evident that hormone imbalances are an underlying cause of joint pain. That’s why more and more studies are being undertaken to see what effects HRT has on joint pain.

Small-scale studies have mixed results, but a recent large-scale Korean study of nearly 4800 postmenopausal women found that women receiving Hormone Replacement Therapy had a significantly lower prevalence of symptomatic knee osteoarthritis compared to women who did not take hormones.

I’ve heard bad things about HRT, is there something safer?

If you are concerned about some of the adverse effects associated with hormone replacement therapy, bioidentical hormones are a great alternative. The main difference between synthetic or synthesized hormones and bioidentical hormones is accuracy. Bioidentical hormones replicate the exact molecular structure of naturally produced hormones (estrogen, testosterone, progesterone, etc.), resulting in a hormone that functions far better than synthetic forms.

In addition, synthetic hormones can have more side effects.  Each dose of bio-identical hormones is tailored specifically for your meet your body’s needs. In our practice, we have found that our BHRT patients have experienced genuine relief from their joint pain with few side effects.

Are you a good candidate for joint pain relief using BHRT?

Your blood carries hormones to your organs and tissues to help support things like metabolism, growth, sexual function, reproduction, sleep, and mood. As you age, your hormone production shifts and often causes a shortage of hormones such as progesterone and estrogen in women and testosterone in both men and women.

Women usually notice hormone imbalance symptoms starting in their late 30s or 40s. Men usually experience symptoms in their late 40s or early 50s.

Other symptoms of a hormone imbalance include:

  • Feeling lethargic
  • Sexual problems
  • Low libido
  • Memory loss
  • Brain fog
  • Night sweats
  • Irritability
  • Inability to sleep through the night

If you fall into these age ranges and are experiencing any of these symptoms in addition to your joint pain, then you are an excellent candidate for BHRT. You can also take this quiz to see if BHRT is right for you!
